Program Description
Preventing and Surviving Violence: Self-Defense Training for Everyone is a program that was designed
to be complete and comprehensive. The easiest way to survive an attack is to never be in one.
That is why there is an importance on intuition, awareness and prediction strategies. However, the
unfortunate truth is that sometimes there is no way to predict or avoid being in the middle of a violent
act; which is why knowing how to defend yourself becomes so critical.
This program is made up of six major elements, listed below, that take a total of four hours to cover. They can either
be done all at once, or in two, two-hour sessions. Price is generally calculated on a per person basis and will
vary slightly due to class size. Minimum class size is six participants, while the maximum class size is
30 due to the interactive nature.
If you do not require all six elements of the program, we are able to exclude certain elements, which will
affect pricing accordingly. This program is intended for us to come to you and conduct this seminar at your place of business.
However, under certain circumstances, we could arrange for the training to be conducted at another facility.
Please note:
This program is intended to be run with all six elements in their entirety.
Have you ever felt uneasy after meeting someone? All of us receive instant clues about people, their
intent and the potential threat they pose to us. Our intuition is one of the strongest self-defense
tools we possess, but unfortunately too often it gets ignored. Participants will learn common roadblocks that stand in the way
of their intuition. By understanding these roadblocks you can overcome them and begin to truly listen to your intuition.
Knowing who and what is going on around us is a skill that we all possess but often under-utilize. The
distractions of texting, digging through your purse, looking through work files or just daydreaming are
just a few of the ways in which we make ourselves targets for violence. Participants will learn awareness strategies that will
help them recognize what is going on in their surrounding environment.
Have you ever had to make a high stakes prediction about someone and their potential course of action?
Every time we drive a car or talk with someone, we make predictions. Will that car let me in the flow
of traffic or how will this person take the news that I am about to tell them? Life has already taught
the lesson and you have already mastered the art of human prediction. Participants will learn how to take
those skills and use them to make high stake predictions about violence that can guide your actions.
True self-defense situations carry their own set of rules: mainly that there are no rules. Self-defense
situations also have different distancing factors that render kicking and punching largely ineffective.
Elbows and knees are just two of the preferred self-defense striking methods that are most effective
in situations where there is limited space between you and your attacker. Participants will learn what, how and when to use
the appropriate striking technique for every self-defense situation, making their response to violence as effective as possible.
Most, if not all grabs and holds, are meant as a power play: a way to intimidate and control a victim. By
knowing how to release yourself from these holds you can take the power and control away from the attacker and give
yourself a way to leave a bad situation. Participants will learn ten releases from six common grabs and
holds by pairing up with a partner and physically practicing these techniques. This interactive training will build the muscle
memory your body will revert to if placed in an adrenalized situation. Being able to release yourself from a hold
appropriately will allow you move away from the situation.
By being able to keep your distance and by giving short commands, you can effectively tell an attacker that
you are not the victim they thought you were. Should your distance be compromised and you get pushed to
the ground, being able to roll back to your feet is an essential skill that will increase your chances of survival.
Being on your feet with the ability to move and run is a much more advantageous position to be in than
laying on your back. Learning how to command a situation and react appropriately is as essential as any
other self-defense skill.
